DEC to Hold July 26 Public Information Session on Former Sperry Remington Environmental Cleanup Sites

Information Session to Include Update on Elmira High School Cleanup

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today the agency is holding a public information session on July 26 about ongoing actions to address contamination at the former Sperry Remington sites, including along Coldbrook Creek, Southern Tier Commerce Center, and Elmira High School. The multi-year cleanup is being conducted under the State's Brownfield Cleanup Program and State Superfund Program by Unisys, the corporate successor of Remington Rand Company, under stringent DEC oversight to ensure the protection of public health and the environment.

DEC and the New York State Department of Health are closely overseeing the cleanup by Unisys and are committed to ensuring the community is informed of these actions," said Tim Walsh, DEC Region 8 Director. "DEC is holding the public information session on July 26 to provide an opportunity for residents and the school community to learn about progress to clean-up historical contamination at the site."

There will be no formal presentation at the session. Experts from DEC, DOH, and Unisys overseeing the investigation and cleanup activities will be available to answer questions.
