Statement by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos on U.S. EPA's "Good Neighbor" Proposal
Today's announcement by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Regan proposing a "good neighbor" plan for air pollution will benefit New York and other states on the receiving end of out-of-state air pollution. New York has some of the country's most stringent air quality regulations to reduce the pollution that causes smog, but we cannot act alone to reduce pollution being transported into New York from other states. DEC will closely review this proposal and looks forward to building upon our ongoing work with the Biden Administration and EPA to reduce smog, improve air quality, and protect the health and well-being of New York's communities.
