Reinstein Woods Fall Festival Theme is "Water"

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) invites the public to the 19th Annual Fall Festival (leaves DEC website) at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve.

Visitors will enjoy interactive exhibits from over 30 local nature, environmental, and historical organizations; live animals; wildlife walks; a drone presentation; and kids' activities including crafts, scavenger hunts, face painting, and costumed characters. This year's festival will also feature a water bottle decoration station and the chance to vote on a name for Reinstein Woods' newest box turtle.

Date: Saturday, September 21, 2019
Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Directions: From Buffalo: Take I-190 South to 90 East. Take Exit 52A William Street and head toward Cheektowaga. Turn left onto Union Road. Turn right onto Bennett Road. At the stop sign turn right onto Como Park Boulevard. Look for the Reinstein Woods sign at the corner of Como Park Blvd. and Honorine Drive. Turn right onto Honorine Drive.

Special activities scheduled during the event include:

  • 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - Wild Bird Rehabilitation: SPCA Wildlife Department will demonstrate how they rehabilitate raptors and other wild birds.
  • 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. - Musical Performances by Mama Earth near the food tent.
  • 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. - Hug-A-Tree and Survive! In this interactive program, Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue Team members will share basic survival tips for kids, in the event they become lost.
  • 1:15 p.m. - Wildlife Walk: An Erie County Park Ranger will lead a walk in the woods, culminating at the Drone Demonstration.
  • 2 p.m. - Drone Demonstration: A Forest Ranger will demonstrate how drones are used to assist Rangers on the job.
