Free Home Energy Workshop on August 15 at Reinstein Woods

Workshop will Explore Solar and Other Energy Efficiency Programs

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) invites homeowners to a free "Home Energy Action Workshop" on Thursday, August 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve in Depew.

"This past June was the hottest on record and many people are eager to find ways to conserve energy," said Reinstein Woods Center Director Meaghan Boice-Green. "This workshop will share paths to energy savings that also save you money."

Jason Kulaszewski, Clean Energy Coordinator for the University at Buffalo Regional Institute (UBRI) (link leaves DEC website), and Lou DeJesus and Jason Posner of PUSHGreen (link leaves DEC website) will provide an overview of solar energy options available to homeowners. The workshop will explain how solar energy works and what community and residential solar programs and incentives are available in Western New York. Participants will also explore home energy efficiency programs and discover practical tips for saving money by conserving energy at home. Attendees can enter to win energy-saving door prizes.

PUSH Green is a community-based energy efficiency program funded by People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). It provides Erie County residents access to free energy assessments, installation services, solar programs, and low-cost financing.

UBRI is the local implementer for NYSERDA's Clean Energy Communities initiative (link leaves DEC website), which helps local municipalities implement clean energy actions, save energy costs, and improve environmental stewardship in Western New York.

Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is required. To register, email your name, phone number and number of attendees to, or call Reinstein Woods at (716) 683-5959. Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is located at 93 Honorine Drive, off of Como Park Boulevard in Depew.
