DEC Seeking Public Input on Draft Recreation Management Plan for Hyslop Conservation Easement Tract

Public Comment Accepted Until March 29

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking public input on a Draft Recreation Management Plan (RMP) for the Hyslop Conservation Easement Tract, Regional Director Bob Stegemann announced today.

"DEC is seeking public input on the management actions proposed in the Draft Recreation Management Plan for the Hyslop Conservation Easement Tract, which protects open space and provides a linear recreation corridor," said Director Stegemann. "DEC's goal is to protect the natural resources and provide outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors, while also ensuring the conservation easement is a working forest asset to surrounding communities and a benefit to local economies."

The 762-acre Hyslop Conservation Easement Tract is located in the town of Newcomb in Essex County, about three miles east of the hamlet of Newcomb. The tract is largely bounded by State Route 28N on the north and Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest on the south.

Management proposals in this draft include open space protection and establishing a 1.7-mile Linear Recreation Corridor, which will connect to the Newcomb to Minerva community connector trail.

The Draft RMP may be viewed or downloaded. Public comments will be accepted until March 29, 2019. Public comments can be mailed to Forester Robert Ripp, NYSDEC, 232 Golf Course Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885 or emailed to r5.ump@dec.ny.gov.
