DEC to Present 2018 State of Owasco Lake Fisheries

The New York State Department of Conservation (DEC) today announced an informational meeting on the current state of Owasco Lake's fisheries. DEC encourages the public to attend. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at the Bass Pro Shop's meeting room, located in the Finger Lakes Mall, 1579 Clark Street Rd, Auburn, NY 13021.

DEC will present information on Owasco Lake, including summaries of the latest available fisheries research and management strategies and actions, as well as contributions from Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) and the Eastern Finger Lakes Angler Diary Cooperator Program.

The formal presentation is expected to last approximately one hour. An informal question and answer session related to Owasco Lake fisheries will follow DEC's presentation. DEC recommends that attendees park at the rear of the mall as Bass Pro Shops closes their doors promptly at 9:00 p.m.

Owasco Lake is one of the 11 Finger Lakes, a series of freshwater lakes in New York State. The lake is located entirely within Cayuga County, while the watershed is primarily in Cayuga and Tompkins counties, with a small portion located in Onondaga County. Owasco Lake is used for a variety of recreational activities and serves as a source of drinking water for the city of Auburn and the town of Owasco.

Owasco Lake and Inlet is stocked annually with trout. An ongoing Angler Diary Cooperator Program for gamefish provides DEC fisheries staff with useful data on population trends. Information on the Angler Diary Program and recent reports can be viewed at Angler Diary Cooperator Program. DEC is continually seeking new cooperators; interested volunteers are encouraged to contact the Region 7 Fisheries Office at (607) 753-3095 ext. 213 or
