DEC Releases Draft Devil's Tombstone Campground UMP for Review

The draft Devil's Tombstone Campground Unit Management Plan (UMP) has been released for public review and comment, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Regional Director Keith Goertz announced today.

The UMP will guide management of the campground for the next 10 years. Devil's Tombstone campground, located in the Greene County town of Hunter, is one of the oldest campgrounds in the Catskill Forest Preserve.

The draft UMP proposes to provide electric service to the campground, rehabilitate the water system, pave deteriorated sections of roads and parking lots, and replace or rehabilitate a number of restroom buildings.

The draft UMP is available on DEC's website and is also available on compact disc and may be obtained by calling DEC at (518) 457-2500.

Public comments will be accepted until close of business on February 12, 2018. Written comments may be mailed to NYS DEC Bureau of Recreation, 625 Broadway Albany NY 12233- 5253, or emailed to

Devil's Tombstone campground opened in 1926 and is located on Route 214, six miles south of the village of Hunter. The campground is situated in a rugged mountain pass in the Catskill Mountains called Stony Clove surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Catskills, making the area a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
