Quadrangle: Unadilla.
Reason for Designation: An ephemeral wash channel incised into the paleosols of stable interfluves. The advanced weathering of the oxisol profile is an indicator of great age, with a preliminary estimate of 20-4000 thousand years. A depositional hiatus such as this has high value with regard to paleoenvironmental reconstruction. No examples of paleoso/channel form relationships of this kind are known to occur in NYS.
