Project Description
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has determined that the application for the White Lake Granite Quarry is complete for the purposes of public review and comment.
White Lake Granite Quarry seeks the necessary permit to develop and operate a 26.6-acre Life of Mine surface granite mine on a 56.5-acre parcel owned by Red Rock Quarry Associates, LLC. The proposed mine will operate above the water table and extract granite blocks for use as dimension stone within a 5.2-acre extraction area. The remaining area will be used for equipment storage and waste rock and overburden stockpiles. Extraction of granite blocks will be conducted using a combination of diamond wire sawing, line drilling, expandable grouts, and micro-blasting methods. Once separated from the quarry face, the granite blocks will be transported offsite via truck. A portable processing plant with a capacity of less than 150 tons per hour would be utilized to produce small amounts of crushed aggregate for use at the project site or for sale.
