Orient Beach State Park

Orient, Suffolk County

Each June and July, female diamond-back terrapins emerge to lay eggs in the sandy soils of the park. Deer can be seen in the forests and salt marshes that line the road. During the fall migration, thousands of birds make their way from the mainland across the Long Island Sound to Orient Point. Beachcombers delight in the variety of shells that wash up on the shore each year, and often find marine life mixed in with the line wrack left by receding tides.
