West Central NY Fishing

West Central New York is comprised of an eleven county area and offers a wide range of fishing opportunities. There are various pristine and scenic water bodies incorporated within Region 8. With the abundant and varying habitats, from lakes to ponds to streams or rivers, anglers have a wide selection of fish species and angling methods to choose from. Whether it is trolling from a boat, casting from shore, wading or ice fishing, year round fishing flourishes in Region 8.

Fishing Hotline

NYSDEC provides an online fishing hotline that is updated weekly and provides current fishing information for selected waters. The regional hotline can be viewed at Central New York Fishing Hotline and Lake Erie and Western New York Fishing Hotline

Angler Diary Programs

If fishing in West Central NY, consider participating in an Angler Diary Cooperator Program. Volunteer anglers keep track of the hours they fish and the fish they catch in diary booklets provided by DEC. Check out the links for more details on each program and how you can participate.
