Take Your Shot for an Outdoor Adventure

Get vaccinated against COVID-19 this December for a chance to win big!

New York State residents who receive their first vaccine dose during December 2021, will have the opportunity to enter the "Take Your Shot for an Outdoor Adventure" sweepstakes to win special prize packages tailored to anglers, hunters, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

To Enter

From Wednesday, December 1, through Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11:59:59 PM EDT, eligible New Yorkers may enter the "Take Your Shot for an Outdoor Adventure" sweepstakes.

The drawing will be conducted January 21 and all confirmed winners will be notified within 90 days.

Entries must be completed online. By successfully transmitting a completed online entry form, each of the first 2,000 participants will be entered into the drawing.

Eligibility

To participate in the sweepstakes, you must meet these requirements:

  1. You are a resident of New York State.
  2. You received your first dose of an immunization against the virus that causes COVID-19 between December 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
  3. You, or a residing household member, are not an employee of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Office of Information Technology Services (NYSOITS), or the New York State Executive Chamber.

To enter the sweepstakes, you are required to enter personal information such as your name, address, phone number, email address, and verify your vaccination. Information collected will be used for fulfillment of prizes and verification of vaccination only.

Prizes

Prior to fulfillment of a hunting license and any associated privilege (e.g., bowhunting privilege), the recipient must complete a hunter education course and bowhunter education course (in the case of the bowhunter prize package) and present certificate(s) of completion. All large prizes and tree seedling vouchers will be redeemable at your nearest DEC office location.

Grand Prizes: Five randomly selected entrants will have a choice of the following deluxe packages valued at approximately $2,000:

  • Fishing: Lifetime fishing license, fishing kayak, vest, rod and reel
  • Bowhunting: Lifetime hunter and bowhunting license, high-quality crossbow package OR compound bow package with ½ dozen bolts or arrows, ladder tree stand, safety harness/fall arrest system, and 10x42 binoculars
  • Rifle hunting: Lifetime sportsman license, high-quality riflescope, ladder tree stand, safety harness/fall arrest system, and 10x42 binoculars
  • Turkey hunting: Lifetime sportsman license, high-quality ground blind, turkey hunting vest, hen decoy pair, shotgun optical sight, slate call, and 10x42 binoculars
  • Birding: 20-60x spotting scope, 10x42 binoculars, bird feeder, bird seed, bird house, deluxe birding guide, and I Bird NY materials

Second Tier Prizes: 25 randomly selected entrants will have a choice of the following packages valued at approximately $1,000:

  • Fishing: Annual fishing license, fishing kayak, vest, rod and reel
  • Bowhunting: Annual hunter and bowhunting license, high-quality crossbow OR compound bow package with ½ dozen bolts or arrows, a ladder tree stand, a safety harness/fall arrest system, and 8x42 binoculars
  • Rifle hunting: Annual hunting license, high-quality riflescope, a ladder tree stand, a safety harness/fall arrest system, and 8x42 binoculars
  • Turkey hunting: Annual hunting license and turkey permit, high quality ground blind, turkey hunting vest, hen decoy, slate call, and 8x42 binoculars
  • Birding: 8x42 binoculars, birdfeeder, bird seed and I Bird NY materials

General Prizes - The first 2,000 people to enter the drawing will receive:

  • Choice of either a $25 gift certificate for camping at a DEC campground or a $25 gift certificate to a major sporting goods retailer
  • Voucher for a tree seedling from DEC's Colonel William F. Fox Memorial Tree Nursery in Saratoga, redeemable at a DEC office in late April
  • One-year subscription to DEC's Conservationist Magazine, which is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary

Terms and Conditions

Selection and Validation Process

Entries will be randomized, and winners will be selected from the pool of eligible individuals who have submitted an entry form ("entrants"). The first five selection results returned will be the Grand Prize winners, subject to verification. The order of each selection result will be recorded and kept on file for audit purposes.

Each winner's eligibility to receive the prize will be verified by New York State prior to the declaration of an official winner.

In the event that an entry is deemed invalid, a discrepancy is found, a winner cannot be located, refuses the prize, a vaccination cannot be verified, does not promptly respond to the initial contact by State officials, or is otherwise unwilling or unable to be verified, the prize will be awarded to the next entrant in the order in which they were ranked until five Grand Prize winners are verified.

The promptness and degree of reasonableness of efforts to locate a winner, or of any decision to deem a winner ineligible based upon these rules, shall be at the sole discretion of NYSDEC.

Once five Grand Prize winners are verified, the list of Second Tier prize winners from the remaining entries will be completed using a similar process.

Validation of vaccination to the satisfaction of the NYSDOH is required for entry in the sweepstakes. However, COVID-19 vaccination is not required to be obtained in New York State to be eligible.

No entries will be accepted after 11:59 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021.

Notification

  1. Winners will receive notification requesting the submission of documentation to validate their eligibility to receive the prize package.
  2. All notifications will occur by email from public@dec.ny.gov, and by phone if a response is not received. If an entrant does not acknowledge receipt of notification by noon on February 4, 2022, they will be withdrawn from the prize and the next eligible entrant will be notified. Entrants must confirm that they wish to claim the prize and agree to provide the necessary documentation.
  3. Entrants must agree not to notify anyone outside of their household of their status as a potential winner until verifications are completed and the official announcement is made.
  4. To be eligible to win a prize, New York State must validate the following entry requirements: vaccination, residency, and that the entrant and any other residing household member are not an employee of the NYSDOH, DEC, NYSOITS, or the New York State Executive Chamber.
  5. Entrants must provide an image of all necessary vaccination documents and/or grant the DEC and NYSDOH permission to obtain information from an appropriate New York State agency to validate eligibility to receive the prize.
  6. Following verification of eligibility, winners will be required to enter into a prize agreement governing the terms and conditions of acceptance of the prize.
  7. All large prizes and tree seedling vouchers are redeemable at a DEC office location only. Winners will select their preferred DEC office location.

Additional Terms and Conditions

  1. By agreeing to participate in the program, entrants authorize the NYSDOH to verify vaccination information and disclose this information to NYSDEC.
  2. By agreeing to participate in the program, entrants agree to authorize NYSDEC to verify employment information with their employer, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (NYSDTF) or the New York State Department of Civil Service (NYSDCS), and agree to authorize their employer, NYSDTF or NYSDCS to disclose any information necessary to NYSDEC for the purpose of verifying they are not an employee of a prohibited participating State entity.
  3. The COVID-19 vaccination is not required to be obtained in the State of New York; however, proof and verification of vaccination, to the satisfaction of the State of New York, is still required. The entrant's first COVID-19 vaccination must be obtained between December 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.
  4. By agreeing to participate in the program, entrants agree that New York State and its entities may utilize and publish their name, likeness, and any other information submitted as part of the program for promotional or other purposes in perpetuity without compensation.
  5. For certain prizes, the winner must complete the hunter safety education licensing requirements.
  6. Individuals are responsible for the information submitted as part of this program. Entry submissions will include attestation of accurateness of information under penalty of perjury.
  7. Winners are responsible for any tax liability that may be incurred from receiving a prize under this program.
  8. Any attempt to undermine or manipulate the entry or prize drawing process will be subject to prosecution under applicable law. Further, any individual found to have committed such act in the discretion of NYSDEC will be ineligible to receive a prize.
  9. Neither the State of New York, the NYSDEC, or any of its employees or agents shall be responsible for late, inaccurate, lost, misdirected, or incomplete entries, regardless of the reason.
  10. Neither the State of New York, the NYSDEC, or any of its employees or agents shall be responsible for inaccessibility of the entry website or other means of entry or communication, or for the incompatibility with the program website of any individual's computer, internet connection, or other technical hardware or software, regardless of the reason.
  11. Neither the State of New York, the NYSDEC, or any of its employees or agents shall be responsible for any inaccurate, missing, or misinterpreted information in any program documents or communications.
  12. By accepting a prize, winners agree to hold New York State and its employees and agents harmless against all claims arising out of receipt of the prize.
  13. By participating in the program, all entrants agree to be bound by these Official Program Rules.
  14. Sporting license prizes are for the benefit of the winners only and are not transferrable to any other person.
  15. These rules may be revised at any time at the sole discretion of officials of the State of New York.
  16. New York State reserves the right, under its sole discretion, to terminate, modify or suspend the program.
