Round Pond

Round Pond is a small, shallow lake located in Chenango County near the Hamlet of Smithville Flats. Round Pond is part of the 3,250 acre Long Pond State Forest area.

Physical Features:

Elevation: 1,400 feet
Area: 25 acres
Shoreline Length: 0.8 miles
Length: 0.32 miles
Maximum Depth: 15 feet
County & Town: Chenango County, Town of Smithville

Aquatic Plant Life:

Very abundant rooted aquatic vegetation throughout the pond.

Access:

Long Pond State Forest, off Round Pond Road. No official launch area but anglers park along road and carry water craft to the water. Hand launch.

Electric motors only.

Fish Species:

Chain pickerel, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish, and bluegill.

Fishing:

Because of the abundant vegetation, fishing early or late in the season is recommended. As is using weed less lures if fishing for the chain pickerel or largemouth bass.

Regulations:

Statewide fishing regulations apply.

Fisheries Management:

Round Pond is not stocked.
