Cayuga Lake TMDL Outreach
Cayuga Lake and its watershed is a complex system with many nonpoint and point source inputs and in-lake processes that need to be properly evaluated through the use of sophisticated models. DEC is continuing to review the Cayuga Lake Model, address technical questions, and verify model performance with the support of Cornell University, its partners, and the Model Evaluation Group (MEG). Concurrently, DEC is working with EPA to revise the TMDL schedule and an updated timeline will be posted online as soon as possible.
DEC has held a number of public meetings to share information regarding the ongoing Cayuga Lake Modeling Project and related Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) efforts. These meetings are scheduled around key project milestones and provide local stakeholders the opportunity to follow progress and offer comments regarding the study and TMDL development, as well as other Cayuga Lake Watershed issues and activities.
The Cayuga Lake Public & Stakeholder TMDL Outreach Plan (PDF) provides further details about participants and their roles, outreach methods, and a summary of past, recent and planned outreach.
The Cayuga Lake TMDL Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) document provides more specific information about questions frequently asked by stakeholders and the public.
