Pepperbox Wilderness - Draft Unit Management Plan

The Pepperbox Wilderness is located on the western side of the Adirondack Park, entirely within the Town of Webb, Herkimer County and just north of the Moshier Reservoir and the Beaver River. At 14,600 acres, Pepperbox is one of the smaller wilderness areas in the Adirondacks.

Public Comment Opportunities

The Department is in the early stages of revising the unit management plan (UMP) for the Pepperbox Wilderness. An informational meeting will be held to solicit public feedback on the development of the UMP on February 27, 2019, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the NYSDEC office at 7327 State Route 812, Lowville, NY 13367.

Written comments are also welcome and will be accepted from February 27 - April 11, 2019. Please send comments to the following contact:

Original 1985 UMP

A previous UMP for the Pepperbox Wilderness was adopted in 1985. This document continues to guide management of the unit until the Department adopts a revision to the UMP.

2015 Amendment - Primitive Tent Site and Trail Designation

This amendment proposes the formal designation of a primitive tent site near Gregg Lake and the formal designation of a foot trail for access to the tent site.
