Climate Smart Communities Coordinators

map of climate smart communities territories

Climate Smart Communities Coordinators are available to provide free support services to municipalities across the state as part of the Climate Smart Communities program (leaves DEC website). Coordinators will assist and support local governments in taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change through outreach, planning, education, and capacity building.

Coordinators will also engage communities in participatory climate future scenario planning, developing climate change adaptation and resilience plans, and convening climate and transportation listening sessions to inform sustainable and low-carbon transportation policies.

These actions will help New York State meet its requirement of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from 1990 levels by 2030 and will help communities increase their resilience and adaptive capacity to unavoidable present and future climate change impacts.

The following contractors were selected through a competitive solicitation process to lead the teams that will serve as Climate Smart Communities Coordinators in their respective territory:

  • Downstate Territory (Long Island, New York City)
  • Eastern Territory (Mid-Hudson, Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, North Country)
    • Todd Fabozzi, Capital District Regional Planning Commission,, (518) 453-0850
  • Western Territory (Southern Tier, Central New York, Finger Lakes, Western New York)
    • Chris Carrick, Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board,, (315) 422-8276 ext.1213
