Project Description:

The applicant proposes to operate a mechanical aquatic weed harvester within Georgica Pond for up to 7.5 hours per day, five days per week from July through September. The harvester is proposed to be used to remove macroalgae and to non-selectively cut aquatic plants a minimum of 1 foot above the bottom. The cut vegetation is proposed to be offloaded at one of five shoreline locations, transferred to trucks and disposed of at an approved upland location. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve water quality throughout the waterbody. The proposed project is located throughout Georgica Pond and Georgica Cove, south of Montauk Highway & Stephen Hands Path in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, SCTM#: 300-201-1-1, 301-7-3-9, 301-12-4-1.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.

SEQR Lead Agency: East Hampton Town Board

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Evaluation using a Structural-Archaeological Assessment Form or other information has concluded that the proposed activity will not impact registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures.

Coastal Management:

This project is located in a Coastal Management area and is subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Jul 15, 2021.
