Public Notice

Notice is hereby given that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NSY DEC) is reviewing the application of Captain Cooke's Oysters LLC, represented by Daniel Cooke of Pompano Beach, Florida, to obtain an Off Bottom Culture Permit and associated Temporary Marine Area Use Assignment, which would authorize deployment of shellfish culture gear and activities related to management of a commercial shellfish culture operation on public underwater lands in Long Island Sound sited approximately 1.35 miles west of Mattituck Inlet and 0.3 miles from shore. The proposed Off Bottom Culture/Assignment site is a circular parcel approximately five acres in area, with a radius of 250 foot extending from a center point located at 41°00' 17.3" North Latitude and 072°34'56.6" West Longitude. The proposed off bottom culture activities would involve deployment of up to 100 cages, each measuring 4 foot long x 3 foot wide x 3 foot high, at a depth of no less than 20 foot at mean low water. The shellfish species to be cultured is the Eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica). There are no existing Temporary Marine Area Use Assignments within 1 mile of the proposed Off Bottom Culture/Assignment site. Initial review of the subject application does not identify any adverse or unreasonable effects on the viability, maintenance or use of local marine resources.

Public Comment

The subject application may be reviewed at the address given below, and specific comments on the requested permit, including the proposed Temporary Marine Area Use Assignment, or a request to become a party in interest if a public hearing is held, must be submitted in writing to the contact person named below no later than July 30, 2021. NYS DEC as lead agency has made an initial determination that this action will not have a significant effect on the environment. All correspondence should reference Application No.OBC-A-03-20.

Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Suffolk County - The Town of Riverhead Planning Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed HK Ventures - Calverton. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on August 5, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Riverhead Town Board Room, Riverhead Town Hall, 200 Howell Avenue, Riverhead, NY 11901. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until August 16, 2021. The Draft EIS is available from the Riverhead Planning Department; the Riverhead Town Clerk; the Riverhead Public Library and on line at: www.townofriverheadny.gov - under the "Hot Topics" tab located at the bottom of the Town's main website.

The action involves the review of a site plan application seeking approval to develop a vacant parcel of industrially zoned land with a commercial/industrial complex consisting of a total of 412,629 square foot of floor area to be divided into individual tenant spaces, along with a 1,500 square foot commissary for use by the tenants of the complex, as well as parking, lighting, and landscaping improvements, new potable water connections, an on-site sewage treatment plant, new access from Middle Country Road (NYS Route 25), as well as other related site improvements. The project site is located at 4285 Middle Country Road in Calverton, Town of Riverhead, New York, within the Industrial C zoning use district.
