Project Description:
Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is proposing a four story approximately 36,000 square foot expansion of Max Lowenthal Hall. A portion of the project is within the 100-foot adjacent area of State Regulated Freshwater Wetland BR-5. The proposed expansion will temporarily disturb 0.086 acres and permanently disturb 0.169 acres of the wetland adjacent area. The proposed project will avoid direct impacts to the wetland. Appropriate soil and erosion control measures and best management practices will be installed and utilized.

The applicant is proposing the installation of approximately 119 linear feet of new stone erosion protection and placement of 2.5 feet of fill behind the wall to bring the eroded lawn area up to grade. The new rock will be primarily placed above the mean high but some of the toe will be located below the mean high water level. The existing vegetation located bayward of the proposed rock will remain. All of the work is the proposed work is located in the NYS Freshwater Wetland and regulated adjacent area RE-1.

As part of the Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI), the applicant proposes to install 30 grinder pumps and 1300 feet of new force main and laterals to connect 30 houses to the public sanitary system. The project will require 4,700 CY of excavation to dig the trenches for the installation. All disturbance of the 100-foot and extended 300-foot NYSDEC regulated Freshwater Wetland Adjacent Areas for Class 1 Freshwater Wetland RE-1* will be temporary; there will be no disturbance of the NYSDEC regulated Freshwater Wetland. The project area is adjacent to Irondequoit Bay, along Bay Shore Blvd in the town of Irondequoit, Monroe County.
