Project Description:

The applicant proposes restoration of the northern and eastern sides of Pussy's pond. On the east side of the pond the town proposes to restore 100 linear feet of shoreline and install a single row of 20" x 12' coir logs, lashed with 4'x2"x2" heartwood oak stakes and lashing cord. This system will be backfilled with sandy loam and the area will be planted with 2" plugs of Spartina pectinate at 1' on center and #5 container grown Baccharis halimifolia at 5' on center. Jute bio-netting will be used to stabilize the area while the plants establish. On the northern and eastern portion of the pond the town proposes to remove the invasive phragmites at the root level. Invasive species will be removed using a low pressure excavator. The area will then be planted native wetland flora, including but not limited to Typha species, Baccharis halimifolia and Spartina pectinata. The area will then be maintained annually to ensure the removal of the invasives, as well as the survival of the natives planted. Pussy's Pond is located at the south-west corner of School Street and Old Stone Highway in Springs, off Accabonac Harbor, Town of East Hampton, Suffolk County, SCTM # 0300-080-01-5.001.

Applicant proposes to install a shoreline stabilization structure composed of 240 LF of rock sill/breakwater, clean fill, and native plantings. The rock breakwater is proposed seaward of mean high water in a tidal wetlands area designated as littoral zone (LZ), and involves the placement of clean, sand fill within the LZ. Native vegetation will be planted in the LZ and the upland, adjacent area. The property is on the west side of Prospect Road on Centerport Mill Pond. The purpose of the project is shoreline stabilization. The project is proposed at 45 Prospect Rd., Centerport, Town of Huntington, Suffolk County, SCTM# 400-45-1-22.
