Shandaken SPDES Semi-Annual Meeting

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) is pleased to announce that the next semi-annual public meeting, held per the Shandaken SPDES permit, will be on Tuesday, August 25th at 1:00 p.m. NYC DEP will discuss the progress of activities conducted pursuant to the SPDES permit. Tree Removal for Construction of New Trail to Red Hill Fire Tower

The action involves cutting and removal of 2 trees 3 inches or larger in diameter at breast height (DBH) and an estimated 90 trees less than 3 inches DBH for the construction of a new foot trail to the Red Hill Fire Tower. The new trail is necessary to accommodate increased use resulting from the popularity of visiting Catskill Fire Towers. Tree cutting will be in accordance with the July 3, 2019, New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division decision on tree cutting in the forest preserve. The project is located in the Sundown Wild Forest in the Town of Denning, New York.

Negative Declaration

Ulster County - The Town Board of the Town of New Paltz, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed New Paltz Community Preservation Program will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the establishment of a Community Preservation Fund by local law pursuant to Section 6-s of the General Municipal Law, the adoption of a Community Preservation Project Plan by local law, and the adoption of a local law to impose a real estate transfer tax on conveyances within the Town pursuant to Tax Law Article 33-B. The transfer tax is subject to referendum. The Plan has been proposed for the purposes of creating a voluntary program to preserve the character of the community including natural, scenic, and historic resources within the Town. The Community Preservation Plan provides details on preservation priorities for use of the Fund and available land use controls to protect community character. The project is located throughout the Town of New Paltz, New York.
