Project Description:

The applicant proposes to develop and operate a 14.6-acre sand and gravel mine within parcels totaling 88.7 acres owned by Ketav Shah and Laurel Cole. The project site is located east of Christie Road and north of State Route 29 in the Town of Greenwich. The mine is intended to operate as a traditional surface extraction of the Hoosic gravelly sandy loam, which is the predominate soil type on the site. Mining is proposed to remove approximately 350,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel over a 15-year operational life of mine period. Excavation will be done by mechanical equipment, standard for sand and gravel mining operations. Mining is proposed to take place above the local water table. The final reclamation plan includes the creation of open graded grasslands and meadow. The reviewed life-of-mine area is 14.6 (LOM) acres.

Cultural resource lists and maps have been checked. The proposed activity is not in an area of identified archaeological sensitivity and no known registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified or documented for the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.
