Tree Cutting Notice for the Construction of Lean within Siamese Ponds Wilderness

The action involves removal of 6 trees immediately adjacent to the planned footprint of a lean-to to be constructed in campsite #51 of the Indian Lake Islands Campground and within Siamese Ponds Wilderness. The trees would impede the ability to construct in the selected location and would present hazards to the lean-to once constructed. This project will be completed through an approved work plan and is called for in the 2005 Unit Management Plan for Siamese Ponds Wilderness. Tree cutting will be done in compliance with Lands and Forests Policy # 91-2 on Cutting, Removal or Destruction of Trees and Other Vegetation on Forest Preserve Lands.

The project is located in the Town of Speculator in Hamilton County, New York.

Negative Declaration

Saratoga County - The Town of Halfmoon, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Town of Halfmoon Waterline Extension and Champlain Canal Trail (Northern Segment) project will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the construction of a new water main along the Champlain Canal Trail. The Champlain Canal Trail is north of Upper Newtown Road, and south of Route 146, and west of Route 4 in the Town of Halfmoon, New York. The proposed route crosses the Old Champlain Canal Lock 8 and wooded and wetland areas. A total length of 11,500 foot of 12 inch diameter HDPE water main is proposed along the Champlain Canal Trail, starting at the existing water-main, south of Upper Newton Road then extending north to State Route 146. An additional 2,633 feet of water main is proposed along State Route 146, beginning at the off ramp to Route 4 and extending west to along Route 146 for approximately 0.4 mile to the Clemente Planned Development District (PDD). The proposed crossing of Upper Newton Road is anticipated to be accomplished by directional drilling. The trail portion will involve the construction of a pedestrian trail. The proposed trail is the segment entitled "Upper Newtown Road to Route 146 and Route 4/32 Intersection" of the Champlain Canalway Trail (CCT), Waterford to Whitehall as identified in the "Champlain Canalway Action Plan" dated March 2011. Construction of the trail will provide continuity and connection between the existing trail systems.
