In this issue, students, their teachers, and their families will learn about opportunities to visit public lands in New York State for free, as part of the Every Kid in a Park and Connect Kids initiatives. The initiatives will be discussed, as will the types of recreational opportunities available, and where they can be experienced.

This issue explores the world of birds and introduces readers to ways of learning about and studying birds. It also discusses ways to help birds, no matter where we live. Students will learn about what makes a bird a bird, and many different ways of learning more about birds, as well as helping collect data used by scientists who study them.
