Public Comment on Brownfield Cleanup Program Applications

The DEC administers the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) pursuant to the requirements of the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL Article 27 Title 14). The BCP was created to encourage the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated properties known as brownfields.

Where to Find Application Information?

For information regarding a specific site, including location of the site document repository where you can view the BCP application, visit the Environmental Site Remediation Database Search Page.

Public Comment Period

When the DEC receives a complete BCP application, the DEC begins a public comment period that lasts 30 days (45 days for applications containing a Remedial Work Plan). This provides interested persons with the opportunity to get additional information, comment on the proposed project, and follow the progress of the work. The public is informed of the application and comment period through a notice in a local newspaper and through the DEC's Environmental Notice Bulletin.

Register for E-Mail Notifications

We also inform the public about BCP applications and comment periods through the DEC's Contaminated Sites Email List - Sign up with GovDelivery to receive information about contaminated sites in your county via email.
