Quality Assurance and Analytical Support

It is the policy of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Water that there shall be sufficient quality assurance (QA) activities to ensure that environmental data and /or information generated, processed or employed by the Division be transparent, unbiased, of known precision and accuracy, reproducible, representative, credible and secure. All environmental projects are to be conducted according to approved Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), equipment manufacturers specifications and 40 CFR Part 136, as appropriate. Documentation of environmental projects shall follow United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) quality assurance requirements. Following NYS Public Health Law Section 502, environmental samples must be analyzed by laboratories accredited by the NYS Department of Health Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP). Each analytical laboratory is responsible for maintaining internal quality controls as part of their quality assurance plan.
