VW Funding for Diesel Replacement and EVSE Projects

VW settlement funding is available for diesel vehicle and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) replacement projects described in the Clean Transportation NY Beneficiary Mitigation Plan. See the list of funding opportunities below that include the amount of VW funding (incentive amounts) made available through each project sponsor, links to apply for funding, and documentation archives. This funding opportunity list will be updated regularly.

Item 1: Class 8 Local Freight and Port Drayage Trucks

Item 2: Class 4-8 School, Shuttle, and Transit Buses

  • $16.7 million for all-electric transit buses (Round 1), NYSERDA NYTVIP (leaves DEC website)
  • $16.4 million for all-electric transit buses (Round 2), NYSERDA NYTVIP (leaves DEC website)
  • $10.4 million for transit bus charging infrastructure (Rounds 1 and 2), NYPA
  • $12 million for all-electric, propane, and CNG school buses, NYSERDA NYTVIP (leaves DEC website)

Item 3: Freight Switchers

  • No programs at this time.

Item 4: Ferries/Tugs

  • $1.2 million, Staten Island Ferry (NYCDOT)

Item 6: Class 4-7 Local Freight Trucks

Item 7: Airport Ground Support Equipment

  • No programs at this time.

Item 8: Forklifts and Port Cargo Handling Equipment

Item 9: Light Duty Zero Emission Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE)

  • $5.0 million, NYSERDA Charge Ready (leaves DEC website)
  • $11 million, NYSERDA Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) within Regional Economic Development Councils, NYSERDA (PON 4509) (Due date: 2/18/21) (leaves DEC website)
  • $250,000, NYPA Rural Electric Cooperatives and Municipal Electric Utilities DCFC (Jamestown)

Item 10: Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) Option

  • $1.3 million, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Drayage Truck Replacement Program (additional funding provided through New York's State Clean Diesel Grant Program)
