New York Recycles Day/ America Recycles Day https://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/8802.html Contact New York State Department of Environmental Conservationrecycling@dec.ny.gov New York Recycles Day/ America Recycles Day
Date: November 15th, 2022
Time: All Day
Additional Information:
Location: Across NY State and the US
Description:
New York Recycles Day complements America Recycles Day, a national initiative to raise awareness of the economic, environmental, and social benefits of recycling, while recognizing New York State’s leadership in promoting recycling and reducing waste.
Across the state, individuals, community groups, businesses, schools, and government agencies celebrate New York Recycles Day in a variety of ways, from encouraging others to reduce their waste by pledging to improve office or school recycling programs, hosting a reuse exchange, and improving awareness of local recycling requirements.
America Recycles Day educates and encourages individuals on how to be more mindful of what they consume, where and how to properly recycle, and to pledge to recycle more and recycle right in their everyday lives.
Focusing on individual action, the day highlights the actions New York State residents can take to collectively recycle right and inspire communities and individuals to recognize the economic, environmental, and social benefits of recycling. The #BeRecycled pledge is a promise to actively choose to live a recycled lifestyle by:
Recycling at home, work, school and on the go;
Buying products made with recycled content; and
Aside from the
#BeRecycled Pledge , people can be part of the recycling solution by participating or hosting their own America Recycles Day event. Events can be scheduled at any time during the fall leading into the official America Recycles Day celebration.

9:00 AM ReLeaf Workshop: Superstorm Sandy 10 Years Later Contact urbanforestry@dec.ny.gov Superstorm Sandy was the sixth-costliest hurricane in the history of the U.S. In NYC, 48 people died, thousands were evacuated, and there was an estimated loss of $19 billion in economic impacts. The storm eroded miles of coastline; flooded 17% of the city, including subway tunnels; overwhelmed water treatment plants; and downed trees across the five boroughs. Between Sandy and the nor’easter that followed it, NYC lost more than 10,000 trees to storm winds and saltwater.
Join us to revisit the City’s response to Sandy and the long-lasting impacts to the city’s trees and green infrastructure. We’ll hear from NYC Parks staff about the immediate storm response, how the City handled the immense amounts of woody debris, and how the lessons learned from Sandy have changed the City’s storm response.
