DEC has planned the expansions of seven existing artificial reefs and the creation of four new sites and is seeking feedback from commercial fishing interests to gain information that will help guide the future development of these sites and avoid conflicts with the commercial industry.

All commercial fishing interests and stakeholders are invited to attend meetings on changes to artificial reefs in the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound. Stakeholders can provide valuable information by identifying fishing locations on charts provided at the meetings or by providing GPS data collected while fishing.

DEC's 13-member Climate Justice Working Group, established under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The Climate Justice Working Group is tasked with establishing criteria for identifying disadvantaged communities for the purposes of co-pollutant reductions, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, regulatory impact statements, and the allocation of investments pursuant to the CLCPA.

This informational meeting will not take any official action but include presentations on mapping analysis and will be conducted by teleconference. Members of the public are welcome to listen to the meeting via webcast.

Calling all treasure hunters!  Let’s learn to Geocache and find out what has been hidden at Five Rivers. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.  GPS devices are provided. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and bring along water and a snack. Please meet at Five Rivers’ Guided School Program Building.

Who: Adults individuals    Maximum Participants:  5 Adults
Time & Dates: Wednesday, 1:00–2:30 PM, November 3, 10, and 17 (Rain Date: November 24)
Where: In person at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center

Project Description:

The Department has determined that the applications to renew the Title V (Air) and Title IV (Acid Rain) permits for the Greenidge Generating Station (Facility) are complete for the purposes of public review and comment. The Department has prepared draft Title V and Title IV permits, subject to public comment or other information, for the Facility, located in the Town of Dresden, Yates County. The Facility is a primarily natural gas-fired electric generating plant, with a generating capacity of approximately 107 megawatts (MW) with a maximum heat input which is limited to 1,117 million BTUs per hour. While the Department is making a draft Title V and Title IV permit available for public review and comment, the Department has not made a tentative or final determination to issue any final permit for the Facility.

The full moon falls on or near a Friday each month this fall. During these guided programs, we’ll explore Five Rivers by moonlight. We’ll follow a different trail each evening, watching and listening for creatures of the night. Distance covered will be one to two miles.

Space is limited. Call 518-475-0291 by the Tuesday before each Ramble to register.

In the event of severe weather, these programs will be canceled.
