OUTDOORS AFTER SCHOOL

Are you tired of sitting at a desk all day? Join us after school to get some fresh air, stretch your legs, and have fun outdoors. Meet at the visitor center to begin our adventure. Come for as many sessions as you’d like, and dress for outdoor activity. For children in grades K-5 and their caregivers. Call by the Monday before each session to register for that week’s program.

Registration is limited. Please call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 by the Monday before the program to register. If registration fills, you may be placed on a waiting list.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.

Join Southern Adirondack ReLeaf for a webinar on building and maintaining your healthy community forest! Starting a new program or maintaining a fledgling program to care for your community trees on streets and in parks can be a challenge. Join us to learn about the steps to becoming a Tree City USA, the benefits of the program, and how to find and apply for funding for your program! The southern Adirondacks have had several notable outbreaks this year of invasive species that threaten trees – including Hemlock wooly adelgid and emerald ash borer. Preparing early to manage these threats can be key to keeping your community forest healthy!

Registration is free but required in advance.

Together, kids and their parents or caregivers can enjoy a different, fun, hour-long outdoor activity. For children in grades K-5.

We welcome those who have any type of physical challenge to all our programs. If you call ahead to let us know your needs, we will be happy to learn how we can serve you.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Pre-registration is required for ALL programs; call 716-683-5959 to register for an in-person program. For virtual programs, please register online at www.reinsteinwoods.org/events.
  • You must pre-register by phone; you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. 
  • All participants are required to wear a mask; social distancing of 6 feet or more will be practiced whenever possible. 
  • Reinstein Woods’ restrooms will not be available. In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled. 
  • We cannot accommodate organized youth/civic groups at these programs. Please call to make other arrangements.

This site is located in the City of Lockport within the County of Niagara, and is located at 210 Walnut Street. Public comments about the application plan must be submitted by October 30, 2020.

How did certain animals like owls, spiders, and crows become Halloween icons? Stop by our outdoor information table to learn more about these creatures, their association with Halloween, and why their fearsome reputations are largely undeserved.
