We welcome those who have any type of physical challenge to all our programs. If you call ahead to let us know your needs, we will be happy to learn how we can serve you.

  • Pre-registration is required for ALL programs; call 716-683-5959 to register for an in-person program. For virtual programs, please register online at www.reinsteinwoods.org/events.
  • You must pre-register by phone; you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. 
  • All participants are required to wear a mask; social distancing of 6 feet or more will be practiced whenever possible.
  • Reinstein Woods’ restrooms will not be available. In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled.
  • We cannot accommodate organized youth/civic groups at these programs. Please call to make other arrangements.

DEC will be hosting a webinar providing updates on the NYS Food Donation & Food Scraps Recycling Law. They will be joined by NYS Pollution Prevention Institute who will provide an overview of their services and an exciting announcement on upcoming available funding for organics diversion.

In 2019, NYS passed the Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling law. Effective January 1st, 2022, large generators of food scraps (generating two tons per week or more) must donate any edible food and recycle all remaining food scraps if they are within 25 miles of an organics recycler (composting facility, etc.).

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation will provide an update on the NYS Food Donation & Food Scraps Recycling law:

  • An overview of the law and implementation timeline
  • Requirements of designated food scraps generators
  • Methodology to determine list of designated food scraps generators
  • Regulatory Update

Citizen Science: EARLY BIRDERS

Celebrate the dawn chorus as we monitor the progression of fall bird migration. These outdoor surveys begin at 7:30 AM. Meet at the visitor center. After a brief introduction, we’ll head out on the trails. Beginners are always welcome. Binoculars are helpful but not necessary. In case of inclement weather, these programs will be canceled. For more information, call 518-475-0291.

Registration is limited. Please call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 by the Tuesday before the program to register. If registration fills, you may be placed on a waiting list.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.

OUTDOORS AFTER SCHOOL

Are you tired of sitting at a desk all day? Join us after school to get some fresh air, stretch your legs, and have fun outdoors. Meet at the visitor center to begin our adventure. Come for as many sessions as you’d like, and dress for outdoor activity. For children in grades K-5 and their caregivers. Call by the Monday before each session to register for that week’s program.

Registration is limited. Please call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 by the Monday before the program to register. If registration fills, you may be placed on a waiting list.

This site is located in the Borough of Brooklyn, within the County of Kings, and is located at 240 Huntington Street. Public comments about the application must be submitted by September 18, 2020.

Roving Naturalist: WILD TURKEY TRAIL

Enjoy the first of fall's gifts. Fall blooms are painting Five Rivers’ fields, while migration is on for birds and butterflies. Follow the Wild Turkey Trail to the observation deck overlooking the meadow and meet with a Five Rivers naturalist. In case of inclement weather, the naturalist will be under the awning between the Visitor Center and Guided School Program buildings.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Roving naturalist programs may host one family/household group at a time. No registration required. 

Social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.
