Shellfish Restoration Council Virtual Public Meeting

The New York State Shellfish Restoration Council will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. ET. The New York State Shellfish Restoration Council (SRC) meeting will cover 1) the progress made to develop the state's first marine shellfish restoration plan and 2) updates on ongoing shellfish restoration projects throughout the state. The primary purpose of this meeting is for council members to deliberate on:

• The plan's Collective Agenda: Vision, Purpose, Results, Priorities, Strategies, and Principles.
• A proposed outline for plan content.
• Whether to align this effort with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Shellfish Initiative (link leaves DEC website)

There will be opportunities for public questions and comments during the meeting. Since the last SRC meeting (June 7, 2022), the plan's Steering Committee, Mapping Committee, Communications Committee, and four topic-specific workgroups have developed the foundational elements of the plan and several related decision support tools. This process has been facilitated by The Pew Charitable Trusts (link leaves DEC website) and Due East Partners (link leaves DEC website).

The next Invasive Species Council meeting will be held at the Department of Environmental Conservation in Public Assembly Room 129 at 625 Broadway, Albany, NY on January 18, 2023 from 9:30am - 1:30pm.

Learn the basics of snowshoeing: how to put snowshoes on (and take them off), walk, and turn. Then we'll go outside to put our new skills to work on a short walk. Snowshoe rental fees are waived.

The trail walk will be conducted without snowshoes if there is insufficient snow.   

Learn the basics of cross-country skiing before going on a short, guided ski tour. $15/person, $10 for Friends members.
