Rockland County Sewer District #1 – Applicant, Rockland County Sewer District #1 (District) applied to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) to renew the District’s State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit (NY0031895) for the District’s wastewater treatment plant. NYS DEC issued a final permit on February 5, 2021. After issuance of the final permit the District requested a hearing pursuant to 6 NYCRR part 621. A virtual public comment hearing will be held on May 20, 2021. The project is located at 4 Route 340, Orangeburg, New York.

Come celebrate the dawn chorus as we monitor the progression of spring bird migration. These outdoor surveys begin at 7:30 AM. Meet outside the visitor center. After a brief introduction, we’ll head out on the trails. Beginners are always welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them. Because of COVID, we will not be loaning any out this season. In case of inclement weather, these programs will be canceled.

Space is limited and registration is required. Call 518-475-0291 by the Monday prior to register.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.

This webinar will touch on several forest health topics currently impacting (or with the potential to impact) the southern and eastern Adirondack areas including emerald ash borer, hemlock wooly adelgid, gypsy moth, oak wilt, and spotted lantern fly. Featuring NYS DEC foresters Jason Denham and Bryan Ellis, NYS DEC Forestry Technician Kelsey McLaughlin, and NYS Agriculture and Markets Field Operations Manager Ethan Angell as speakers.

Continuing education credits for the NYS DEC Pesticides program and ISA may be available.

Did you know you had newts for neighbors? Red spotted newts are one of our most common salamanders. In spring they can be found along wet areas of our trails or in our ponds and shallow pools. Come discover this animal's remarkable tale on a nature walk.
