This full-day workshop will provide Electrical Hazard Awareness Training. It will NOT satisfy EHAP certification. This training program will be interactive and cover a range of safety-related topics essential for arborists working near energized overhead power lines. This workshop will provide a certificate of attendance in partial fulfillment of the OSHA and Z133 training requirements for arborists working 10 feet or closer to energized conductors. Attached is a flier with more details about this event.

$45 for ReLeaf and NYS Urban forestry council members, $60 for general public. Registration required, this event is likely to reach capacity and walk-ins won’t be accepted. Registration fees are non-refundable, but may be transferred to another person. Register for Electrical Hazard Awareness training online on the NYS Urban Forestry Council Website

Lunchtime Virtual Public Forum Series

Introduction by Kimberly T. Hill, Chief Disability Officer, Office of NYS Governor Kathy Hochul

This two-part webinar series will provide an overview of relevant federal regulations and standards on access to public lands by people with disabilities to inform public discourse in New York State. Janet Zeller, a national expert on accessibility of outdoor recreation, will give a presentation on each topic, followed by a discussion period facilitated by the Accessibility Advisory Committee to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Adirondack Park Agency (APA).

Mobility Devices on Public Lands: Is it a Wheelchair or Other Power-Driven Mobility Device?

Tuesday, May 10, Noon-1:30pm

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that any mobility device that meets the definition of a wheelchair must be allowed everywhere that the public can go. This session will include an overview of the required factors for public entities to consider in evaluating which mobility devices meet the definition of a wheelchair and which are considered Other Power-Driven Mobility Devices (OPDMDs).

New York State Climate Action Council Public Hearing Scheduled

Public Comment Period Extended through June 10, 2022

New York State's 22-member Climate Action Council, established under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), will hold 10 public hearings across the State to receive public input on the Draft Scoping Plan and advance work on a Final Scoping Plan to guide the implementation of the State's nation-leading climate goals under the CLCPA.

The Council released the Draft Scoping Plan on Dec. 30, 2021, and is accepting public comments on the draft through June 10, 2022. The Council extended the comment period beyond 120 days to allow for additional public input.

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Co-Chairs of the Climate Action Council, today announced eight in-person hearings in locations across the State, as well as two virtual hearings. In-person hearings will also be live-streamed to allow for remote viewing of the proceedings. All persons, organizations, corporations, and government agencies are encouraged to attend the public hearings and to submit oral or written comments.

Come celebrate the dawn chorus as we monitor the progression of spring bird migration. These outdoor surveys begin at 7:30 AM. Meet outside the visitor center. After a brief introduction, we’ll head out on the trails. Beginners are always welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them. In case of inclement weather, these programs will be canceled. HUDSON VALLEY PUBLIC HEARING ON DRAFT SCOPING PLAN ON MAY 12

What:

New York State’s 22-member Climate Action Council, established under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, will hold an additional in-person public hearing in the Hudson Valley on May 12, 2022, to continue its work on a Statewide Scoping Plan to guide the State toward its nation-leading climate goals.

The Council released the Draft Scoping Plan on Dec. 30, 2021, and is accepting public comments on the draft through June 10, 2022. The Climate Action Council is now holding a total of 11 public hearings with nine in-person hearings and two virtual hearings.

In-person hearings will also be live-streamed to allow for remote viewing of the proceedings. All persons, organizations, corporations, and government agencies are encouraged to attend the public hearings and to submit oral or written comments.

Individuals attending in-person hearings and providing comments will be given two minutes to speak. Attendees are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior to the hearing for registration.

The weather is warming up and nature is on the move! Join a Five Rivers educator for this playful movement class. We’ll stretch like a bobcat, hunt one-legged like a heron, and squat like a toad. This program is for children (ages 5-12) and their caregivers. Bring a towel or yoga mat. Meets outdoors in the pavilion but we will be on the lawn in the spring sunshine if conditions permit.
