DEC would like your feedback on our kiosks on State lands. Kiosks are small, open wooden structures that provide cover for educational/informational signs. These kiosks are located at various state properties such as state forests, wilderness areas, conservation easements, wildlife management areas (WMAs), boat launches, and more. Take the survey at:

By taking the survey, you can be entered into our kiosk survey sweepstakes and enter to win a $50 gift card to a sporting goods store and a free subscription to the Conservationist magazine. Winners will be announced each month from January 2023 through January 2024. A grand prize winner will be announced in January 2024 and will receive a $200 sporting goods store gift card and a free magazine subscription.

Registration is required for ALL programs unless otherwise indicated; call 716-683-5959 to register. If you call outside of normal business hours, you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your name and phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. Registration is limited to two programs/month. If you want to sign up for additional programs, you will be added to the waitlist. No limit for virtual programs. Social distancing and mask protocols are subject to change with current COVID guidelines. If you or a family member feels ill, is waiting for COVID test results or have COVID symptoms, please stay at home. In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled. Join the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC), for a hike along the new Fisher Trail. Meet at the Fisher Boulevard trailhead for this 1.5-mile walk through to Five Rivers’ visitor center on Game Farm Road. Learn some winter tracking techniques along the walk. Take a break and warm up, then walk back at your own pace or join Sarah for the return trip.

We’ll imagine what it might have been like to use these ancient tools to aid survival, like many of our ancestors did. You’ll come away with a newfound appreciation for snowshoeing, which is far more than an outdoor sport!
Snowshoe rental fees are waived.

The trail walk will be conducted without snowshoes if there is insufficient snow.
