Public comments about the draft plan will be accepted through December 28, 2020.

DEC has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application for a site known as US Polychemical Corporation, site ID #C344081. This site is located at 584 Chestnut Ridge Road in the Village of Chestnut Ridge in the Town of Ramapo within the County of Rockland. Public comments about the application must be submitted by January 1, 2021.

NEW YEAR’S FIRST DAY HIKES
Happy New Year! Start the year on the right foot with some outdoor fun. We’ll watch for signs of wildlife as we stretch our legs and clear our heads on two easy-paced guided walks for all ages. The morning walk will cover about three-quarters of a mile, while the afternoon walk will cover about 2 miles. Dress for the weather. Space is limited for both guided walks. Call 518-475-0291 by Tuesday, December 29, to register. In the event of severe weather, these programs may be canceled.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.

Ring in New Year’s Day with a hike led by a DEC Forest Ranger, who will discuss how to prepare for any outdoor adventure.

I Bird NY: Winter Finch Search
It is predicted that this year will be historic for the “irruption” of winter finches moving south into our area. Enjoy a search for some of these uncommon northern visitors, like redpolls, crossbills, and grosbeaks. Space is limited. Call 518-475-0291 by Wednesday, December 30, to register.

Family Fun: Outdoor Explorers
How do you tell a dogwood tree in winter? By its bark! Come enjoy learning about and identify five trees at Five Rivers. Get to know them and what they are doing during the cold months of the year, and hopefully return in the other seasons to visit them.
