Hop on the free Nature Bus in Albany every Saturday to enjoy scenic outdoor walks or programs at Five Rivers and other natural areas in Albany County. Stay for the day or visit multiple locations along the bus route.

Come learn about bugs during this family-friendly activity. We will start with a walk to look and listen for insects and spiders along the trail. We will then learn about bug basics and how important bugs are to life on earth through a series of interactive activities.

This event is arranged by the I FISH NY program of the DEC in cooperation with Hempstead Lake State Park. Attendees will learn fish identification, local aquatic ecology, casting safety and techniques and fishing regulations. Following an educational introduction about fishing on Long Island, I FISH NY will conduct basic fishing instruction, ecology and stewardship of local aquatic habitats, fish identification, regulations and casting safety and techniques. The I FISH NY program of the DEC will provide instruction, rods, and bait free of charge.

Cost: $8 parking fee/Free with Empire Pass

Join as we use nets and scoop in the pond to search for aquatic animals. Wear waterproof boots or old sneakers.

We welcome those who have any type of physical challenge to all our programs. If you call ahead to let us know your needs, we will be happy to learn how we can serve you.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Pre-registration is required for ALL programs; call 716-683-5959 to register for an in-person program. For virtual programs, please register online at www.reinsteinwoods.org/events.
  • You must pre-register by phone; you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your name and phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. *Registration for popular programs is limited to 3 people per party.
  • All participants are required to wear a mask; social distancing of 6 feet or more will be practiced whenever possible. 
  • In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled.
  • We cannot accommodate organized youth/civic groups at these programs. Please call to make other arrangements.

Please register only if you plan on attending. While spaces are limited at each event, there are many events to choose from throughout the summer!

This program is open to families. All children under 18 years old must be supervised by an adult. Children ages 12 and up may be dropped off with permission from a parent/guardian.

Permission can be given during registration or at the event.

Please register all members of your group that will be attending the event.
