DEC has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application and Draft Remedial Action Work Plan for a site known as Ossining Gas Works DPW Site, site ID #C360172. This site is located in the Village of Ossining, within the County of Westchester, and is located at 30 Water Street, Ossining, NY 10562. Public comments about the application must be submitted by September 16, 2023.

In partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, DEC, and others, CDTA is providing free bus service between the City of Albany and Five Rivers on select Saturdays this summer and fall. Take part in a guided program or explore the trails and visitor center on your own.

Bus service to Five Rivers will be provided on July 8 and 22, August 5 and 19, September 2, 16, and 30, and October 14. Go to www.cdta.org for detailed information from CDTA, including the full bus route and schedule. Information is also at www.mohawkhudson.org/nature-bus.

At 2 miles long, the North Loop is Five Rivers’ longest trail. It meanders through woods and meadows, giving a taste of the many habitats here. Sturdy footwear will ensure comfort as we navigate over exposed roots.

Learn how to fish for free at the 2023 Long Island Women's Fishing Expo!

During the clinics, no freshwater fishing license or enrollment in the recreational marine fishing registry is required, but all other statewide fishing regulations remain in effect.

Join DEC for a free fishing clinic from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, 9/16, at the North-South Lake Campground in Haines Falls, Greene County. The event is free to the public and a fishing license is not required during the event. 

During the free fishing clinic, participants can learn about fish identification, fishing equipment, and techniques before getting the opportunity to cast their fishing lines into the water. DEC will supply fishing rods, bait, and tackle, but experienced anglers are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear. Children under 16 must be supervised. Participants will be required to pay applicable day-use service charges to enter the facility.

  • Registration is required for ALL programs unless otherwise indicated; call 716-683-5959 to register. 
  • If you call outside of normal business hours, you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your name and phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. 
  • Registration is limited to two programs/month. If you want to sign up for additional programs, you will be added to the waitlist. 
  • In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled.
  • If you or a family member feels ill, is waiting for COVID test results or have COVID symptoms, please stay at home.
  • We cannot accommodate organized youth/civic groups at these programs. Please call to make other arrangements.
