Paddle the Hudson River estuary with staff naturalists from the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. These free, educational canoe trips explore tidal marshes, observe birds and wildlife, discover lush flowers and unique plants, and provide spectacular scenery.

The canoe trips are suitable for adults and children (6+), whether you’re an experienced or beginner paddler. The trips leave from two different launch sites: Stockport Flats in Columbia County and Tivoli North Bay in Dutchess County. Novices and families welcome!

All gear is provided, and registration is required. Register through Eventbrite. For more information on public paddles, call 845-8894745 x109 or email hrnerr@dec.ny.gov.

Wednesday, August 30 12:30-3:00 pm

Watch for herons, belted kingfishers, and eagles as we explore Columbia County’s Stockport Creek. We may paddle into a tiny tidal channel to see a beaver lodge perched next to the water, or up to a great swimming beach on Stockport Middle Ground, adjacent to the shipping channel – so wear your swimsuit and hope for waves from passing boats!

* Special note for hunters: most hunting zones do not align with DEC's regional boundaries, so you won't find hunting seasons listed in the regional calendars. Use the statewide calendar instead.

This calendar provides a listing of all DEC-sponsored events that are open to the public. You can click on any event in the calendar to view additional details about the event. Note that the events at environmental education centers will only display in the region in which they are located, even though they serve residents from adjacent areas. We welcome people with disabilities to all of our programs. Please call the contact number ahead of time to let us know your specific needs and we will be happy to learn how we can best serve you.

We would appreciate receiving feedback from our users. Please let us know if you encounter any difficulties viewing or using this calendar by sending an email to the DEC webmaster.
