DEC invites the public to comment about a proposal to address contamination related to the 100 Union Avenue site #C224274 (Brooklyn, Kings County) within New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program. Public comments about the proposal will be accepted through May 20, 2023.

Join us as we search for feeding flocks of beautiful warblers on their migration north. Binoculars will be available to use. For adults and children ages 10 and older.

We welcome those who have any type of physical challenge to all our programs. If you call ahead to let us know your needs, we will be happy to learn how we can serve you.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Registration is required for ALL programs unless otherwise indicated; call 716-683-5959 to register. 
  • If you call outside of normal business hours, you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your name and phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. 
  • Registration is limited to two programs/month. If you want to sign up for additional programs, you will be added to the waitlist. 
  • In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled.
  • If you or a family member feels ill, is waiting for COVID test results or have COVID symptoms, please stay at home.
  • We cannot accommodate organized youth/civic groups at these programs. Please call to make other arrangements.

Participate in a free Beginner's Fishing Clinic co-hosted by DEC and Trout Unlimited Chenango Valley Chapter at the South Otselic Fish Hatchery in South Otselic, Chenango County on Saturday, 5/20. 

Two sessions will be held:  one from 9 AM - 11:30 AM and the other from 12:30 - 3 PM. 

In addition to casting a rod and catching fish, participants can learn about fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics, aquatic ecology, and more! No freshwater fishing license is required during the event, and all equipment and bait will be provided for free.

You are invited to slow down and engage with nature, experiencing it through all your senses during a guided trail walk. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing, the goal of this walk is to tune in to the present moment while immersing our senses in the sights and sounds of spring. 

Appropriate for adults and teens.

Let’s get together and play in nature’s playground.  We will use maps to navigate our way to the pond while enjoying the sights and sounds of spring. Once there, we will explore using nets and buckets to see who’s living and swimming in a pond habitat.
