CWM owns and operates the Model City facility in the Towns of Porter and Lewiston, Niagara County. The Model City facility is a duly permitted hazardous waste treatment, storage, disposal, and recovery facility that accepts hazardous and non-hazardous waste. CWM proposes to construct and operate a new Residuals Management Unit-Two (RMU-2) landfill occupying approximately 43.5 acres at its Model City facility. For this proposal, CWM filed permit applications with the Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as an application for a Certificate of Environmental Safety and Public Necessity. Adjudicatory Hearing: An adjudicatory hearing will be held pursuant to 6 NYCRR Part 624 on May 10, 2023 @ 10:00 am, and continue, if necessary, on May 11, 2023. The hearing will be held virtually using the Webex audiovisual conference platform. Participation in the adjudicatory hearing is limited to the designated parties. 3:00 PM	Community Meeting on Statewide Community Air Monitoring Initiative Brooklyn https://www.dec.ny.gov/press/127571.html Contact New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Community Meeting to Report on Statewide Community Air Monitoring Initiative Region 2 Brooklyn DEC announced a meeting that will provide progress updates for communities participating in the State's 2022-23 Community Air Monitoring Initiative. This meeting continues DEC's efforts to gather community input in targeting emission sources and identifying future strategies to reduce air pollution in these communities, including the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. At this meeting, DEC staff will provide an overview of the initiative and present a preliminary review of the second quarter of air monitoring results specific to each community. Information will include how and where the air monitoring is being conducted on the street level and how DEC will compile and analyze the data to identify potential contributors of emissions for each pollutant being monitored. Preliminary data collection is underway. DEC will provide results once additional information is compiled. 5:30 PM	Public Input on Visitor Use Management Project in Catskills - Kaaterskill Clove Contact New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Opportunities for Public to Provide Input on Visitor Use Management Project in Adirondack High Peaks and Catskills Public Meetings to Help Develop Management Strategies to Support Sustainable Recreation in the Forest Preserve DEC announced that Otak, Inc., is facilitating the first round of public meetings in the Adirondack High Peaks and Catskills for the Visitor Use Management (VUM) project. Public and stakeholder input will play a key role in helping DEC and Otak develop appropriate sustainable management strategies for the High Peaks and Kaaterskill Clove areas. The VUM planning process focuses on the experiential, social, and public safety elements of visitor use in both areas. The public meetings will begin with a foundation-setting presentation that highlights the project purpose, goals, and timeline, and introduces the VUM Framework and how it will be applied in the Adirondack High Peaks and Kaaterskill Clove in the Catskills project areas. Rather than a formal comment opportunity, interactive discussion groups will follow the presentation to gain an understanding of public interests and concerns and solicit public feedback. The outcome of this initial phase will include a summary report of the process, recommended management strategies, and a monitoring plan. VUM meeting details: High Peaks Project Area in the Adirondacks: May 9, 2023, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Harrietstown Town Hall Auditorium, 39 Main Street, Saranac Lake 12983 Kaaterskill Clove Project Area in the Catskills: May 10, 2023, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Coppertree Restaurant, Hunter Mountain Base Lodge, 64 Klein Avenue, Hunter 12442 DEC and Otak will hold a second round of public meetings in 2024 to present draft management recommendations. A two-year contract was awarded to Otak, Inc., a research, planning, and design firm awarded the VUM planning contract following a competitive Request for Proposals process, supported by the State's Environmental Protection Fund (EPF). The 2023-24 Executive Budget sustains the EPF at a historic $400 million. The EPF provides funding for critical environ mental programs such as land acquisition, farmland protection, invasive species prevention and eradication, enhanced recreational access, water quality improvement, and an aggressive environmental justice agenda. Otak has more than two decades of experience conducting visitor use planning and research on wilderness and other recreation lands managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and other agencies. Their team includes experts in recreation planning, meeting facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and data analysis. Comments are welcome throughout the process and will be used to inform next steps in the planning process and overall project.
