NIAGARA RIVER/LAKE ERIE (NRLE) CLASSROOM WORKSHOPS

These free workshops are designed to help educators dive into NGSS-aligned watershed education. NRLE Classroom teachers must attend a minimum of 2 summer workshops, but spaces are available for educators not participating in the full program. 3 CTLE Hours.

We welcome those who have any type of physical challenge to all our programs. If you call ahead to let us know your needs, we will be happy to learn how we can serve you.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Registration is required for ALL programs unless otherwise indicated.
  • If you call outside of normal business hours, you will receive a call confirming your registration or waitlist status. PLEASE SPEAK CLEARLY when leaving your name and phone number as our system does not have caller ID. Unless you receive a callback, you are not registered. 
  • Registration is limited to two programs/month. If you want to sign up for additional programs, you will be added to the waitlist. No limit for virtual programs.
  • Social distancing and mask protocols are subject to change with current COVID guidelines.
  • If you or a family member feels ill, is waiting for COVID test results or have COVID symptoms, please stay at home.
  • In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled.
  • We cannot accommodate organized youth/civic groups at these programs. Please call to make other arrangements.

For more than 15 years, data collected at Five Rivers has been contributed to this continent-wide citizen science project conducted through the University of Minnesota. Join volunteers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in conserving monarchs and advancing the understanding of butterfly ecology and migration in general. Wear long pants and bring a sun hat and water. We will meet at the visitor center.

DEC Seeks Public Comment on Draft Neversink River Unit Management Plan
Public Comments on Proposed Management Plan Accepted Until Aug. 19

Public Meeting to be held on August 4th

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) released the Draft Neversink River Unit Management Plan (UMP) for public comment. The plan guides the future uses and management of approximately 8,644 acres of DEC-managed public lands within the Neversink River Unit in the towns of Forestburgh, Highland, Mamakating, and Wawarsing.

DEC is holding a public meeting at the:

Monticello NY 12701 

Date: Aug. 4, 2022 

Time: 6 to 8 p.m. 

Purpose: The public meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about the proposed management actions in the draft UMP and public comments will be accepted following a presentation that provides an overview of the draft plan.

Proposed management actions will be guided by DEC's Strategic Plan for State Forest Management, which focuses on ecosystem health and diversity, economic benefits, recreational opportunities, forest conservation, and sustainable management.

Comments can be submitted by Aug. 19, 2022, by mail to DEC Division of Lands and Forests, 21 South Putt Corners Rd. New Paltz, NY 12561, and by email to R3.UMP@dec.ny.gov
