Close to the visitor center and accessible to strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs, this quiet trail offers an easy introduction to exploring the outdoors. Dappled shade from maple, beech, and hemlock trees makes for interesting views.

Learn what plants and animals can be found in the different layers of the forest, from the forest floor to the canopy. 

We welcome those who have any type of physical challenge to all our programs. If you call ahead to let us know your needs, we will be happy to learn how we can serve you.

  • Registration is limited to two programs/month. If you want to sign up for additional programs, you will be added to the waitlist. No limit for virtual programs.

  • In case of poor weather, programs may be cancelled.

Learn how to fish for free from 11:00AM-2:00PM at Long Island Sound/East River, Bronx County. This free fishing clinic event, NYSDEC will partner with SUNY Maritime for the Boogie Down in the Sound event. NYSDEC will offer a free fishing clinic from 11am-2pm on the east side of the Throgs Neck Bridge at SUNY Maritime Campus. This event offers participants the opportunity to practice fishing and learn about fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics, aquatic ecology and more!

No freshwater fishing license is required for participants during the event; however, all other statewide fishing regulations remain in effect.
