Join Department of Environmental Conservation Division of Water grants staff on Tuesday, May 17 at 11:00 AM for a live overview of two grant opportunities: the Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program, and the Non-Agricultural Nonpoint Source Planning and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Mapping Grant (NPG). Time will be provided for questions and answers.

WQIP is a competitive, reimbursement grant program that funds projects that directly improve water quality or aquatic habitat, or protect a drinking water source. Eligible project types are wastewater treatment improvement, non-agricultural nonpoint source abatement and control, land acquisition for source water protection, salt storage, aquatic connectivity restoration, and marine habitat restoration.

NPG is a competitive, reimbursement grant program that funds planning reports for nonpoint source water quality improvement projects and mapping of MS4s.

Lunchtime Virtual Public Forum Series

Introduction by Kimberly T. Hill, Chief Disability Officer, Office of NYS Governor Kathy Hochul

This two-part webinar series will provide an overview of relevant federal regulations and standards on access to public lands by people with disabilities to inform public discourse in New York State. Janet Zeller, a national expert on accessibility of outdoor recreation, will give a presentation on each topic, followed by a discussion period facilitated by the Accessibility Advisory Committee to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Adirondack Park Agency (APA).

PART II

Sustainable Trails and Accessibility: How to keep our wild lands wild while being more inclusive

Tuesday, May 17, Noon-1:30pm

This session will provide an overview of accessible and sustainable trail design and how to integrate sustainability and accessibility in keeping with the federal standards for accessible trails. Integration of these factors results in trails that reduce environmental impacts and open the outdoors to hikers of all abilities while maintaining the character of the trail and reducing trail maintenance.

Presenter: Janet Zeller. Discussion facilitator: Lisa Tarricone- Member, Accessibility Advisory Committee; Executive Director, Taconic Resources for Independent Living, Poughkeepsie, NY.
