DEC invites the public to comment about a draft plan to investigate contamination related to the Broad Street Irving Ave Cleaners, site ID #C360213 (Port Chester, Westchester County) within New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program. Public comments about the draft plan will be accepted through September 2, 2021.

Take part in ongoing research on monarch butterflies. For more than 15 years, we have collected data at Five Rivers and contributed to the University of Minnesota’s continent-wide citizen science project. The goal of the MLMP is to better understand how and why monarch populations vary, with a focus on their distribution and abundance during the breeding season in North America (Canada, Mexico, and United States). For more than 15 years, data collected at Five Rivers has been contributed to this continent-wide citizen science project conducted through the University of Minnesota. You can join volunteers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in conserving monarchs and advancing understanding of butterfly ecology and migration in general. Wear long pants and bring a sun hat and water. We will meet at the visitor center. Go to to learn about the project.

Space is limited and registration is required. Call 518-475-0291 by the Saturday prior to register. 

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.

NYSDEC will hold a virtual public comment session on Thursday, September 2, 2021 beginning at 4:00 PM to accept oral statements regarding the draft permit application received from White Lake Granite Quarry who seeks approval to develop and operate a 26.6-acre Life of Mine surface granite mine on a 56.5-acre parcel owned by Red Rock Quarry Associates, LLC. 

Those interested in attending or providing oral statements must register in advance of the hearing at and click "Join a Meeting", and enter the meeting access number, 179 384 8725 and click "Register" to complete the necessary fields. 

Comments for this draft application must be filed with the NYSDEC no later than the deadline on September 17. 2021.
