The rule would establish a minimum size limit of five and one-half inches shell length or three inches shell width, require the use of bait bags, establish gear marking, buoy line, pot size and daytime hauling requirements and restrict the placement of whelk pots near navigation channels. In addition, the proposed rule clarifies that marine and coastal district food fish and crustacea dealers and shippers license holders must report purchases of marine food fish, crustacea, horseshoe crabs and whelks from harvesters consistent with requirements currently in place in 6 NYCRR Parts 40 and 44.

For complete text of the rule, visit DEC's Marine Resources Regulation Revisions webpage.

Comment period is open through June 21, 2021.

What should you do if you find a five-leaf clover? When is it dangerous to dream of daisies? Does any culture value dandelions? Does heal-all heal all? The valued cultivated plants our ancestors brought to the Americas are now a familiar part of our wild landscape. On this exploratory stroll, we will search out some of these flora pioneers and, hopefully, find answers to our questions.

Space is limited and registration is required. Call 518-475-0291 by Friday, June 18, to register

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.
