Five Rivers celebrates Outdoors Day today with a variety of activities. Call ahead to register for Learn to Camp, Archery or a guided walk along the Wild Turkey Trail, or drop in and explore the trails at your own pace.
10:00 - 11:30 AM -- How to Do It: Learn to Camp
Did you get the camping bug from friends and neighbors this year? If you did, Five Rivers is the place for you. Come talk with experienced staff about equipment and approaches to camping or bring along any of your camping-related questions. This is a great way to decide if camping is for you. Space is limited and registration is required. Call 518-475-0291 by Wednesday, June 9, to register.
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM -- Ask an Expert: Hiking Safety
Come visit our informational table and pepper a Forest Ranger with questions about hiking and backpack safety, Leave No Trace Principles, and outdoor gear. They will be ready to answer your questions and offer suggestions. This is a drop-in activity, and social distancing will be observed.
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM -- How to Do It: Archery
Interested in archery and never had the opportunity to try? Well, here is your chance. We’ll have an inflatable archery range where you can talk to experts and learn about different equipment and the best techniques. You’ll become a straight shooter in no time. Space is limited and registration is required. Registration is for 15-minute slots. Call 518-475-0291 by Wednesday, June 9, to register.
2:00 - 3:30 PM -- Guided Hike: Wild Turkey Trail
Join a center naturalist as we hike one of Five Rivers’ longer trails. Enjoy the scenery and look for grassland species as you learn about what to bring with you on a hike around town or in the forest preserve. Space is limited and registration is required. Call 518-475-0291 by Wednesday, June 9, to register.
For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a drop-in activity, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.
