The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the City of Cohoes will a hold a virtual public information session on issues related to the air pollution control emissions testing and water pollution control at the Norlite facility in Cohoes.

Date:  

February 3, 2020, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Location:

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, DEC presentations will be conducted virtually through the WebEx Events online platform or via conference call.

Local residents and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to join the virtual session and submit questions before and during the session.

DEC officials will provide information and take questions after each presentation on the following important topics:

Update on DEC’s enhanced Norlite permit renewal review

Status of DEC’s enhanced permit renewal review for Norlite’s State Air Title V and Part 373 Hazardous Waste Management Facility permits.

Monitoring Incineration at Norlite and an Update on Comprehensive Performance Test and Dust Sampling Results

Status of incineration at the Norlite facility, including preliminary results of the November 2020 comprehensive performance testing of Norlite’s recently upgraded air pollution control equipment, and results of sampling efforts in response to dust complaints received in November and complaints of deposits in snow.

Overview of Norlite’s Water Pollution Control System and Permit

Overview of the facility’s State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit, Project Delta’s wastewater treatment plant decommissioning, and DEC’s ongoing oversight.
