The 1.5 hour webinar is for professional shoreline design consulting engineers, landscape architects, restoration practitioners, natural resource managers and municipal officials and other coastal shoreline property owners.  The webinar covers then preliminary designs of 2 nature-based shoreline projects on the Hudson River, at Piermont and Kingston. Professionals from HDR Engineering and SuperMass Studio municipal representatives, and project managers  will present on stakeholder engagement, site assessments, future sea-level, design objectives, 30% conceptual plans, permitting considerations, implementation strategies and estimated project costs. HDR and  SuperMass used conceptual designs created by landscape architecture students in Cornell University’s  Climate Adaptive Design Studio to produce 30 percent designs.

For Piermont, design goals emphasize protection and stabilization of existing shorelines; development of shallow water habitat features and provision of recreational access. A combination of “nature-like” engineering features include the reconstruction of an existing submerged jetty to promote wave attenuation and shore protection.

For Kingston Point, designs include creation and enhancement of intertidal and subtidal habitats, nature-based shoreline protection using live stakes, and structural strategies to protect the beach. Both projects take sea-level rise into account.

Join the webinar here >>

Objectives

Participants will understand future conditions; creation & enhancement of habitat; physical, social & permit constraints; stakeholder engagement and reasons for selection of living & structural components, including sizing & concrete edge design.
