What’s the connection between Capital Region birds and the coffee in your cup? Explore this question with Brew the Roost, a series of interactive quilts that highlight the seasonal migration of birds and the importance of shade-grown coffee in maintaining biodiversity in coffee-growing regions. Quilts will be updated every two weeks as the fall migration progresses.

This family-friendly art exhibit, created by local artist Katherine Lynn Bierman, will be on view in the visitor center through Thanksgiving.

Public Comment Period for the Draft Amendment to the Blue Mountain Wild Forest Unit Management Plan (UMP)

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) has installed a 12 foot by 20 foot shed, adjacent to Route 28 near Lake Durant, to store a mobile boat-washing station. The purpose of the UMP amendment is to allow the shed to remain in place as a permanent structure rather than removing it each fall and re-installing it every spring because: 1) the physical moving of the shed compromises its structural integrity, and 2) it would take additional resources to move and store the shed off-site every year.

Comments are welcome and will be accepted by the contact person until October 30, 2019. The Draft Unit Management Plan amendment is posted on DEC's website.

The Blue Mountain Wild Forest is located in the Town of Minerva in Essex County, New York, and Towns of Indian Lake and Long Lake in Hamilton County, New York.
